APRIL MyHEALTH Thailand: local international cover in Thai baht

APRIL MyHEALTH Thailand is a local product, not APRIL's worldwide plan: private medical insurance (IPMI) in Thai baht for foreigners, Thai nationals and permanent residents of Thailand. IPMIAsia explains the three hospital tiers, optional modules, two areas and how it compares with global cover.

Last updated: 20 October 2026 · Reviewed by IPMIAsia
In short: APRIL MyHEALTH Thailand is a Thailand-only plan priced in baht for foreigners, Thai nationals and permanent residents, with Essential, Extensive and Elite hospital tiers (THB10m to THB65.5m) and optional outpatient, maternity, dental and optical modules that can differ per family member. It suits expats who expect to stay in Thailand; anyone likely to move, or who wants Singapore inside a regional area, should compare a global plan.
Key takeaways
  • The two areas are worldwide excluding the USA, or Europe and ASEAN excluding Singapore, with 30 days of out-of-area emergency cover.
  • Maternity is limited to women aged 19 to 45 on Extensive or Elite with a nil deductible and outpatient cover.
  • Dental and optical are not available on the Core-only configuration, so they need at least outpatient alongside the hospital tier.
  • Applications use a medical questionnaire, and APRIL publishes FMU and CPME forms so existing exclusions can be carried across from another insurer.

A local product for people living in Thailand

MyHEALTH Thailand is built for one country. It is sold to foreigners, Thai nationals and permanent residents living in Thailand, it is priced and paid in Thai baht, and its benefit schedule is specific to Thailand. That makes it a different thing from APRIL MyHealth International, the worldwide plan in euros or US dollars, and the two should not be compared on names alone.

One design feature stands out: the modules can differ for each family member. A parent who needs outpatient cover and a child who needs only hospital cover can sit on the same policy with different configurations. Our Thailand country page explains where a local plan like this fits alongside global cover.

Maternity is limited to women aged 19 to 45 who select Extensive or Elite hospital cover with a nil deductible and outpatient cover. Exact benefit conditions are in the Thailand schedule. Deductibles run from nil to THB327,500.

How to read the structure

The plan works in layers, and the order matters.

  1. Hospital tier. This sets the annual limit for hospital and surgery, from THB10m on Essential to THB65.5m on Elite. It is the only compulsory part.
  2. Deductible. Choose from nil to THB327,500. A deductible lowers the premium but is paid before the plan pays, and note that the maternity module requires a nil deductible.
  3. Outpatient. Optional, with three benefit levels. Skip it if you are happy to pay for clinic visits yourself; add it if you want GP, specialist and routine care covered. Our guide to inpatient versus outpatient cover helps with that decision.
  4. Maternity, dental and optical. Maternity is tied to the two higher hospital tiers, a nil deductible and outpatient cover, and to women aged 19 to 45. Dental and optical are optional and are not available on the Core-only configuration, so they need at least outpatient alongside the hospital tier.
Because the maternity module has four conditions attached (age, hospital tier, nil deductible and outpatient), it is the module to plan early. Our maternity cover guide covers the waiting periods and conditions to check across the market.

What the hospital cover includes and the services around it

Hospital cover includes inpatient expenses, a standard private room, outpatient surgery and cancer treatment. Evacuation, repatriation and assistance are included up to THB32.75m. APRIL publishes cashless access worldwide and to 4,500 facilities in Asia, unlimited TeleHEALTH and Second Medical Opinion services, and digital claim submission. The facility figure is APRIL's own published statement.

Outpatient coinsurance can apply outside the Panel Network and is waived inside it, so where you choose to be treated affects what you pay on the outpatient module.

Area of cover, underwriting and limitations

Two areas are published: worldwide excluding the USA, and Europe and ASEAN excluding Singapore. The second is a genuinely regional option that keeps the premium focused on Thailand and its neighbours, with the notable exclusion of Singapore, which is a common destination for complex treatment from Bangkok. If you would want the option of treatment in Singapore, the worldwide-excluding-USA area is the one to price. Thirty days of sudden-illness or injury cover applies outside the selected area, subject to the out-of-area benefit. Our guide to regional versus worldwide cover in Asia explains the trade-off in more depth.

Applications use a medical questionnaire, and APRIL also links full medical underwriting (FMU) and continued personal medical exclusions (CPME) forms, so a switch from another insurer can carry existing exclusions across. The policy schedule and terms govern exclusions, underwriting and pre-authorisation. See our pre-existing conditions guide for what each route means.

Who APRIL MyHEALTH Thailand suits

A strong fit if you live in Thailand and expect to stay, you want a plan priced and paid in baht with Thailand-specific benefits, you value the ability to configure cover differently for each family member, and the Europe-and-ASEAN area matches where you travel.

Worth comparing alternatives if you may move to another country (a local plan does not travel with you the way a global one does), you want Singapore inside a regional area, or you want to compare the baht limits against a US-dollar global plan. IPMIAsia compares APRIL's Thailand product with 20+ international insurers through Nomi, and the Thailand page sets out the local context. Browse all insurers for the alternatives.

Frequently asked questions

Is APRIL MyHEALTH Thailand the same as APRIL's international plan?
No. MyHEALTH Thailand is a Thailand-specific local product in Thai baht for foreigners, Thai nationals and permanent residents living in Thailand. APRIL MyHealth International is a separate worldwide plan in euros or US dollars with its own structure.
What are the hospital tiers and limits?
Three tiers: Essential with a THB10m annual hospital and surgery limit, Extensive with THB32.75m and Elite with THB65.5m. Deductibles run from nil to THB327,500. Outpatient, maternity, dental and optical are optional modules on top.
Who can add maternity?
Women aged 19 to 45 who select Extensive or Elite hospital cover with a nil deductible and outpatient cover. The maternity limit is THB163,750 on Essential, THB327,500 on Extensive and THB491,250 on Elite, with exact conditions in the Thailand schedule.
What areas of cover are available?
Worldwide excluding the USA, or Europe and ASEAN excluding Singapore. Thirty days of sudden-illness or injury cover applies outside the selected area, subject to the out-of-area benefit. If you want treatment in Singapore as an option, choose the worldwide-excluding-USA area.
Can each family member have different cover?
Yes. The modules can differ for each family member on the same policy, so one person can carry outpatient cover while another has hospital cover only.
How does IPMIAsia compare a local Thai plan with global cover?
IPMIAsia runs Nomi, which prices APRIL MyHEALTH Thailand alongside 20+ international insurers for your age and cover level, and an experienced adviser confirms the schedule, area and underwriting terms before you buy. The Thailand country page explains when a local plan is the better choice.
