APRIL MyHealth International for expats in Asia
MyHealth International is APRIL International's long-term international private medical insurance (IPMI) for people living abroad. IPMIAsia explains the four levels, the optional outpatient, dental and maternity modules, how the covered countries are chosen, and how it differs from APRIL's separate Thailand and Singapore products.
- Overall annual limits run from €/$500,000 on Explore to €/$4m or unlimited on Elite, defined in APRIL's Details of Benefits.
- Maternity can only be selected together with outpatient cover, and dental and optical are packaged together except on Explore.
- You select the covered countries at application, with worldwide emergency cover on trips of up to 90 consecutive days.
- A health questionnaire is required and pre-existing conditions are not systematically covered; the terms offered after medical review are decisive.
Four levels from Explore to Elite
MyHealth International is positioned for expatriates, international assignees, families, retirees, digital nomads and freelancers who want long-term medical cover abroad. It is a separate product from APRIL's local plans; if you live in Thailand or Singapore, read the APRIL Thailand and APRIL Singapore pages, which describe different products with their own currencies and limits.
| Plan | Overall annual limit | Published structure |
|---|---|---|
| Explore | €/$500,000 | Hospitalisation, cancer and evacuation; optional outpatient and pharmacy, dental and other benefits |
| Essential | €/$1,500,000 | Higher core limit; optional outpatient; check-up, dental and optical limits are published |
| Extensive | From €/$2,000,000 to unlimited | Enhanced optional outpatient, plus higher dental, optical and maternity limits |
| Elite | From €/$4,000,000 to unlimited | Highest published tier; hospitalisation, cancer, evacuation and medical imaging shown at 100% |
The currency, ceiling and benefits that apply to you are defined in APRIL's current Details of Benefits. A benefit shown at 100% remains subject to the policy terms and the overall limit.
What is in the core and what is optional
All four levels include hospitalisation, cancer treatment and medical evacuation or repatriation. Everything else is layered on by choice:
- Outpatient cover is optional and increases by tier.
- Dental and optical are generally packaged together, except on Explore.
- Maternity can only be selected together with outpatient cover.
- Deductibles and detailed benefit limits vary with the configuration you choose.
The practical way to read this is as a core-plus-options plan. Start with the level that gives the overall limit you want, then add outpatient if you expect regular GP and specialist visits, and add maternity only if a family is planned, remembering that it requires the outpatient module. Our guides to inpatient versus outpatient cover and maternity cover cover the decisions in more depth. Consult the live benefit document for your configuration rather than carrying figures across from another market.
Choosing covered countries and temporary travel
MyHealth International works differently from the simple worldwide or worldwide-excluding-USA choice most insurers offer. The application lets you select the covered countries, and you can include your country of nationality. On top of that, APRIL describes worldwide cover for accidents and emergencies during trips of up to 90 consecutive days, except in excluded countries. The area you choose and the excluded-country rules must be confirmed in the issued documents.

Claims and access to care
- Easy Claim supports paperless reimbursement requests.
- APRIL describes direct settlement with hospitals, so eligible members do not need to pay hospital costs upfront.
- Unlimited telehealth consultations are included.
- Multilingual assistance is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
APRIL publishes access to more than two million partner healthcare professionals. That is APRIL's own network statement rather than an independently audited count or a list of hospital partnerships.
Application, underwriting and limitations
Applicants complete a health questionnaire. APRIL says that pre-existing conditions are not systematically covered, which means the individual terms offered after medical review are what count: a declared condition may be accepted, excluded or restricted, and you will know before you buy. Our pre-existing conditions guide explains how this compares with moratorium and transfer options elsewhere in the market.
The product's exclusions, deductibles, pre-authorisation rules and detailed eligibility are set out in the General Terms and Conditions, the product information sheet and the Details of Benefits linked from APRIL's official product page.
On who stands behind the policy: APRIL states that the product is designed and managed by APRIL International Care France, with Groupama Gan Vie covering medical and contingency benefits and CHUBB European Group SE covering repatriation and personal liability. Confirm the entities that apply to your issued contract.
MyHealth International for expats in Asia
Because you select the covered countries at application, MyHealth International can be shaped around an Asian life rather than forced into a worldwide bracket. A family based in Malaysia that travels regularly to Singapore and Thailand can build the area around those countries, add the country of nationality for home visits, and rely on the 90-day emergency cover for trips elsewhere. Whether that works out cheaper than a conventional worldwide-excluding-USA plan is exactly the kind of question a whole-market comparison answers; our guide to regional versus worldwide cover in Asia sets out the trade-off.
Limits are published in euros or US dollars, with the applicable currency defined in the Details of Benefits. If you live in Thailand or Singapore, note that APRIL also sells local products in Thai baht and Singapore dollars with their own structures; those are covered on their own IPMIAsia pages and are the ones to compare if you want a plan priced in the local currency. IPMIAsia includes APRIL in its whole-market comparison through Nomi.

Who MyHealth International suits
A strong fit if you want hospitalisation, cancer and evacuation guaranteed at every level with the freedom to add outpatient, dental and maternity only where needed, you like choosing the covered countries yourself, and you value telehealth and direct hospital settlement.
Worth comparing alternatives if you want outpatient cover built in rather than optional, you prefer a moratorium route for pre-existing conditions, or you live in Thailand or Singapore and would rather have a plan in the local currency. Browse all insurers to see the alternatives side by side.
